Lambda Kappa Sigma - Xi Chapter
Elevating Women In Pharmacy
About Us
Xi Chapter at the University of Rhode Island
Lambda Kappa Sigma is an international pharmacy fraternity founded at Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston, MA in 1913. Since then, LKS chapters have popped up across the US and Canada, which includes Xi Collegiate Chapter in 1927 and Xi Alumni Chapter .
At the University of Rhode Island, we take pride in being one of the largest collegiate chapters, with 140 active sisters. Our chapter focuses on leadership development, academic excellence, professionalism, and community outreach. Two of our popular annual events include Gala and Hope WaLKS 5k.
Gala is a professional dinner in order to raise money for a charity of choice. In past years we have donated to the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition in memory of a beloved alumni and recently, St. Jude Children's Hospital in memory of one of our sister's father, John Paolucci. Additionally, pharmacists can get credit for continuing education and family and friends can enjoy raffles baskets and a delicious meal.
HOPE WaLKS 5k is an annual run/walk we host on the URI campus during the Spring semester in order to raise funds and spread awareness about Project HOPE, our fraternity's national philanthropy. Project HOPE delivers essential medicines and supplies, health information and training to prevent disease and promote wellness around the world.
As hard working student pharmacists, we have fun, too! Some of our popular sister bonding events include apple picking in the fall and ice skating during the early spring semester. Our pride committee organizes a retreat for our chapter just before finals each semester. A little friendly competition and a whole lot of laugher starts off our finals week on a positive note. Lastly, we can't forget to mention our annual trip to the deliciously famous Brickley's Ice Cream in Narragansett!
Xi Chapter welcomes all student pharmacists, encouraging students to join freshman or sophomore year. We strive to practice pharmacy and promote growth with guidance of our core values: leadership, sisterhood, service, scholarship and integrity. Overall, LKS sisters in Xi Chapter help each other develop into strong, passionate and knowledgable pharmacists and support one another in personal and professional endeavors.
