Alumni Spotlight: Liz Paolucci


Liz graduated from URI Pharmacy in 2019. After graduation, Liz pursued a PGY1 in community pharmacy through the Walgreens-MCPHS residency program from 2019 to 2020. She is currently a clinical pharmacist at Lifespan Specialty Pharmacy.


 

The Walgreens-MCPHS residency consisted of four longitudinal components:


1. Community at a local Walgreens in Chelsea, MA


-Filled and verified scripts, answered patient questions, and counseled patients on new medications

-Patient education and community outreach MTM via Outcomes portal: blood pressure screenings, vaccine clinics, diabetes monitor education, and more!

-Residency project: COPD technique and adherence


2. Specialty at Walgreens Specialty in Boston, MA


-Medications for specific disease states: Oncology, transplant, hepatitis C, HIV, cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis, inflammatory disorders, infertility, growth hormone, etc.

-Bench pharmacist (similar to community pharmacy) but with more patient contact and monitoring

-Community outreach: Light the Night Walk and educational sessions for Boston living center


3. Ambulatory care in the Endocrine Clinic at VA Boston


-Helped patients in a clinic setting: most of her patients had diabetes and some also had other conditions such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia

-Collaborative Practice Agreement with practitioners allowed her to treat patients such as adjusting insulin dosing, adding medications to treatment regimens, and ordering labs

4. Adjunct professor at MCPHS Boston Campus


-Taught in community lab and seminars

-Adjunct professor in Global Health elective

-Preceptor to students at Walgreens


 

Liz is currently a clinical pharmacist at Lifespan Specialty Pharmacy and has recently become a clinical pharmacist in the oncology/hematology hub! Some of her current responsibilities include:


-dispensing medications for specific disease states

-reviewing patient charts on LifeChart to ensure appropriateness of therapy

-answering clinical questions for both patients and providers
